Aaah!

Have you ever seen a cuter baby picture?
(Left click over it to enlarge it)
While reading a Journal I had just downloaded from the internet, this photo suddenly popped up on my screen. I hasten to share it with you.
As you gaze at this baby, you are smiling, aren't you? Hasn't your day become brighter and more hopeful? And yours too, Osama?
Let's ruminate: Clearly, what this baby projects is radiance, happiness and pure innocence. At this age, its mind is a tabula rasa, a blackboard upon which nothing profound has yet been writ. He (or she) knows absolutely nothing about Buddha, Zeus, Allah, Attila, Mother Teresa or even Christ. But what will be inscribed upon its mind by age 20, 30 or later? Will the radiance and happiness still be there? Will the innocence have survived or will it have been twisted into mindless intolerance or fulminating hatred? Will this baby grow up to respect and perhaps even nurture its fellow beings? Or will it become committed to destroy and kill? What determines what eventually happens?

Hey Domo, while reading the comments I noticed that although they are very complimentary, they are also obviously self promoting. You've been infiltrated!! Perhaps when downloading the photo these sycophant solicitors tagged along for the ride. By the way the picture is extremely refreshing and enlightening. Peter

Peter (Name?),
You raise an interesting, but very puzzling technical point. Those first three (complimentary) commentators do indeed cite their own websites and there could be an element of self-service to each of their notations.

But my question to you is this; how could any of them have known that I had just copied that image to my clipboard? What adds to this puzzle is that I was reading that Journal offline. It was in PDF and the baby image was part of an ad on that page by the Ave Maria Mutual Funds. Nothing in the ad shows any connection to those three websites.

It would be interesting and exceedingly helpful if any or all three of those authors would comment on this.

Hi Dad,
That was Pete's comment. Not sure if you realized it was he because you have the "?" near his name. Pete reads your blog and the comments all the time and was surprised because that type of response never happened before. It's just odd that all 3 comments are promoting their own website. That pop up (an advertisement) must have flagged you as a possible customer for things related to it.

Loretta,

I’m glad you clarified for me that it was your husband who made that comment and not one or two other Peters that I know.

But the puzzle remains. I must have misled everyone when I wrote that “this photo suddenly popped up on my screen.” Actually, as I said in my previous comment it was simply on the page I was scrolling. I was offline at the time and nothing in any part of the magazine “pops up” while I am in that mode.

However, as you say, it was indeed odd and unusual that three very complimentary comments appeared almost simultaneously, and almost immediately after I had posted the blog. Indeed,I have even wondered if all three comments could have been made by “one” individual, a person who is eager to promote sites he/she is connected with.

In closing, let me say it pleases me greatly that Peter reads my blog regularly. How I would love for him to “guest blog” a post for the Hornblower. We all know he has much of great interest to say.

With love, Dad

Great post, Dom!

Poignant, dramatic, and true! I think the whole world should see it! Except that, in our politically correct environment, some might complain there isn't a dark-skinned child in the photo. Nevertheless, very effective.

I'm sorry I haven't written you. I do occasionally read your blog. There was a recent one on religion, Armageddon, that I wanted to respond to, but alas, the day goes by with so many other people calling on me.

I always enjoy your writing. Hope you are otherwise well. I trust Lenore is also fully recovered.

Keep in touch. The Ark Angel and the map of our journey is always in front of me, at my desk.
